Holy Computerized Sewing Machine Batman! Early birthday present ahoy!

Wow this thing looks pretty awesome, I'm going to have to really get all up in the manual for a while before I even attempt to put the thing together. So far I've only sewn one thing with the help of my mother, but it wasn't horribly difficult and I have sewing friends and family who can tutor me when the need arises. Who would have thunk I'd get so excited at getting a sewing machine for my birthday? Go figure.

What should I sew first? I need some beginner projects to hone my sewing skillz.

I'm trying to think of what I should do for my birthday. I'll be turning 21, and that's pretty much the last one with any real significance (until 40, I suppose). Anyway, I don't want to get drunk or anything but I would like to exercise my new-found ability to drink ze liqueur in a formal atmosphere. As far as alcohol goes, I definitely prefer wine over all others (even though my experience is fairly limited). Good wine is never bad, in my opinion. Whereas good vodka etc will still be quite awful (just not as awful.) I've heard of people who call themselves vodka connoisseurs... I call them alcoholics. :P

At the same time, I'd like to see some of my friends for ze celebration, but it's becoming clear to me that I can't both go out to a nice dinner with Greg and still have a party with friends. I'm just not seeing it work out. The place I want to eat at is far too expensive for more than two people to dine but... bah. This is complicated and stupid. Maybe I'll dine out the night after or something.
