I'm Hungry

Well, there's not much else to do today other than prattle on about the daily doings of Yours Truly. Oh wait. There's laundry, and getting the mail, and grocery shopping, and stopping by the florist... I guess I have no good reason to be so very bored. And yet, here I am, bored as a 2X4.

I had another job interview today at a photo development shop, I think I left a good impression on them, but we'll have to see where it goes from there (I should know by Friday). It would be nice to get into some photography again. On the way to the photo place (I can walk there from my house) I spotted a florist and picked up a card because the florist was currently out buying flowers at the market. Anyway, it was a lovely little shop and I want to go back later today and talk some numbers with the florist, see what these things actually cost and whatnot. I'll have to remember to bring my wedding idea album, too.

In other news, we (that is Greg and I) are hosting a Japanese student for two weeks! During the day Yuri goes to English class held in a church nearby. She's 12, very shy, and very quiet. But, she laughs readily at funny things and is slowly gaining more confidence. She only has one year of English under her belt, so communications can get interesting at times. We're learning some Japanese in the process so it's a learning experience for everyone!

p.s. Obviously, I'm back from my hiatus, but sadly did not finish HP7 yet. Hopefully I'll finish it soon, but you know how these things go.

Ok, I finally have something to do with my time during the Summer. I got a job working at the EB Games store in the Santa Rosa Plaza. It doesn't pay much (minimum wage) and it's only part time on evenings, but at least it's something. If I can get something more morning or mid-day that would be much better I think. However, when you start you start low. *shrug* Anyhow, I'm not sure what the discounts are but if anyone needs me to make use of my discount powers (assuming I have any) let me know.

Is it bad when your main motivation for getting a job is so people will stop bugging you about it? :P

My first training session is tomorrow evening. Good times.

Panda - Working
Sorry I didn't get around to posting yesterday after work, I just got distracted.

So, all day long at work I was stuffing envelopes with paper. I like the repetitive nature of it, because I don't have to worry about being hijacked by some customer in the middle of my work. It's much more calming and I think my blood pressure will thank me for it. In the middle of my work the boss (Mike) asked me to flip through a 400+ page book before they went to print it, to make sure none of the pages were missing. This book was worth $2,000 - an outstanding sum of money. Apparently it was a listing of all the employees for tons of big companies, so that other companies could 'head-hunt' the employees or its competitors. Wow. So I felt like they'd given me some responisibility really early on, I felt trusted and happy.

I never felt trusted at Walgreen's. >< Part of the whole reason I'm quiting that job. For now, I'm doing two jobs till my two weeks notice thing is up. Ah, good times.

Thanks for sharing,

Cailin

It Ain't Easy Being Wal-Green

Well my first day at Walgreens was uneventful, mostly because me and another first day employee spent 90% of the time watching out-dated movies from the 80's about various aspects of employment. There was even a song and dance number about how to sell products to customers. It was... kinda scary. I had such a headache by the end of the evening.

I finally got some cashier experience after several hours of video, and my little work with 'those silly contraptions' helped a bit. I've got to get used to answering the phones, and knowing how to answer their questions... along with paging codes and all sorts of protocol stuff. I hope the customers are patient. It's likely that tonight I'll be learning more about the photography department, seeing as that's where I'll be most of the time.

I'd really like to have the morning shift... this 4:30 to 9:30 shift is annoying because Greg gets home right between these times. If I could get an earlier shift it would really help me. They've yet to fix a schedule for me, so nothing is certain. I need some good standin' shoes. For now, that is all.

Updates and the World of Work

Well, I'm expecting a call from Walgreen's today... probably won't get it till sometime in the afternoon, but none the less I'm keeping a watchful eye on my phone. I've never had a 'full-time' position before... so I'm very excited about this more 'proffessional' feeling I'm getting. Of course, this will most likely have to change in the Fall, but for now there's nothing stopping me from working a 40 hour week.

I'm aware I'll most likely get disenchanted with the whole idea of working (again), but for now I'm content in my blissful idealism. I like to be happy, so sue me.

In other news, I cleaned the house yesterday, and it's looking pretty good! *Grins* I feel so.. domestic at times. I still feel that we need more art on the walls (can you ever really have too much?). Perhaps some movie posters or those lovely Demotivators. Those are so cute. I wish I had more to report but in all honesty there isn't much going on in the world of Cailin as of late. I suppose I should mention one of the good things about having a job is that people must stop asking you 'how the job search is going', as if they're prodding you to make sure you don't forget that, just like the rest of America, you are expected to be a contributing member of society and WORK. I've saved up a bit of money over my years working back at home, so my working isn't really an issue of need so much as it is an issue of social expectation. Everyone and their mother seems to have an opinion on the subject of my employment. *sigh*

I want to read a good book, something that will suck me into it and make me read it from cover to cover asap. It seems like I'm lacking the motivation to read as of late and I'd like to get back into it. Reading always makes me feel good inside... That is all for now.

Working Classy Dame

Well, I've got good news to report.

I finally went out and got myself a job (my second in all history of jobs).

I'm actually quite proud of myself, because one might say I'm a little shy when it comes to approaching other people I don't know. I'm going to be working in the Photo Department at Walgreen's, and I'm really excited about dealing with photos all day (since I love photography). It's not a glamorous job by any stretch of the imagination, but I think it's something I'll enjoy.

It was kinda funny when I applied, because I wasn't expecting to be offered the job right then and there. When the manager noticed I was interested in the photo dept. he got excited and said there was an immediate opening there. I was thrilled, and I should get a call on Tuesday to discuss hours etc. I'm a happy camper. That is all.
